Maintenance of Certification (MOC)
The Office for Continuing Medical Education certifies programs for a wide range of credit types, including Maintenance of Certification (MOC). MOC refers to the continuing education requirements that are set by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). Physicians that are board certified in a specialty, such as Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Anesthesiology, can earn credit toward these requirements by participating in accredited CME activities that count for MOC.
The ACCME currently collaborates with six member boards of the ABMS to streamline the process for certifying activities for both CME and MOC credit. The six collaborating boards are: , , , , , and . These collaborations enable our University to offer MOC credits for several programs which already meet the requirements for CME, and provide individualized assessment and feedback to learners. Integrating MOC credits into our accredited CME activities offers several benefits such as enhanced learner participation and engagement.
After your program is approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™, integrating MOC credits into your existing CME program can be completed in a few simple steps:
1. Review the ACCME’s comprehensive CME for MOC resources.
2. Review the CEL’s MOC guidelines and customized checklists for the specific collaborating boards.

3. Determine the best evaluation and feedback tools and methods for your CME program.
Assess your current CME activity to determine the appropriate evaluation and feedback tools for your learners. For instance, you may want to consider the average number of learners in each session, the learning format of the activity, and content of the sessions when selecting evaluation and feedback methods.
